Dawna Sheperd has always loved dogs and was fortunate to grow up on a Montana
ranch with working Border Collies. When she moved to Idaho in 1989 she was finally
able to start training and eventually showing her dogs. In the following
years, she continued to develop her training techniques and “dog knowledge”
through classes at Spokane Dog Training Club, Coeur d Alene Dog Fanciers,
seminars when possible, and working with talented CDADF club members who
willingly pass on their wisdom.
Dawna joined Coeur d'Alene Dog Fanciers
in 2005 and has since held various offices: Treasurer, Vice President, President
and Training Director. She instructs various obedience classes for the club and
am a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. She is also an Associate Member of the
American Belgian Tervuren Club.
Dawna has herding breeds, probably that
early imprinting from the ranch. Her current canine family includes:
Monique a 10 yr old female Belgian Tervuren, Duke a 6 year old male German
Shepherd, and Maverick a 3 year old male Belgian Tervuren. All her dogs
have their Canine Good Citizen certificates and hold obedience titles. She
still has several goals to reach; one is to show Maverick to his breed
Championship and another is to certify both Duke and Maverick in tracking.
Dogs have always been and always will be an integral part of Dawna's life. Her grandchildren are starting to follow in the family tradition of training and showing their very own dogs. The family heritage continues.
